Primary
Purpose:
Southwest ISD is seeking a dynamic leader who will engage the students, staff, and community. Southwest ISD is a fast-growing district steeped in tradition and excellence. The principal will oversee compliance with district policies, the success of instructional programs, and the operation of all campus activities. Provide instructional leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service. Direct the implementation of district policies and instructional programs and manage the operation of all campus activities.
Participate in collaborative efforts with other district leaders. Learn best practices and participate in district-wide administrative guidance.
Education/Training:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Texas Mid-Management/Principal or appropriate Texas certificate
- Credentials required for teacher appraisal or eligible to obtain
- Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting check/background check
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction and ability to interpret data
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
Experience:
- Minimum three years of experience as a classroom teacher
- Three years of experience in instructional leadership roles
- Highly effective principal experiences (preferred)
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
- Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use these findings for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success.
- Collaborate with staff and community to plan, implement, and evaluate the curriculum on a systematic basis, including students, parents, and community representatives when appropriate.
- Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
- Fostering collegiality and team building among staff; encouraging their active involvement in the collaborative decision-making process.
- Facilitate two-way communication with the Superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
- Communicate and promote high expectations of staff and students; provide for recognition of excellence and achievement.
- Facilitate effective and timely conflict resolution.
- Ensure the effective, timely, and successful opening of a new campus.
- Build a common vision with staff for school improvement; direct planning of activities and implement program cooperatively with staff to ensure attainment of the school's mission.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings to facilitate school improvement.
- Lead a collaborative process to develop a campus improvement plan.
- Develop, maintain, and use appropriate information systems and records necessary for monitoring the attainment of campus performance objectives.
- Interview, select, and orient new staff.
- Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with all staff.
- Make recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal following due process.
- Confer with campus personnel regarding their professional growth; work jointly with them to develop and accomplish goals.
- Collaborate with faculty and encourage student input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable following due process.
- Confer with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
- Comply with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations affecting the campus.
- Facilitate the assignment of responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Project and monitor enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs.
- Supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus, including cooperation with governmental entities as appropriate.
