Job Description
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Musical Me is seeking a passionate, skilled, and mission-driven Music Together® In School (MTIS) teacher to bring the joy and transformative power of music to students in moderate-to-severe special education classrooms across Santa Clara County. This is a meaningful part-time role — up to 25 hours per week — for someone who sees music not just as a subject, but as a bridge to connection, communication, and growth for every child.
If you are a self-starter with strong musical skills, a dependable work ethic, and a deep heart for serving students with special needs, we want to hear from you. If you’d like to dive a little deeper into what MTIS is about, please visit
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As our MTIS teacher, you will travel to partner school sites and lead engaging, research-based music classes designed for students with moderate-to-severe disabilities.
Responsibilities include:
• Deliver Music Together® In School curriculum with warmth, consistency, and excellence
• Adapt songs, activities, and materials to meet the individual needs of students across a wide range of abilities and communication styles
• Build trusting, effective relationships with students, classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and school administrators
• Arrive fully prepared and on time to every class, independently managing your schedule and materials
• Communicate proactively and professionally with school partners and program leadership
• Represent Musical Me with enthusiasm and professionalism at every school site
WHO YOU ARE
You are the kind of person who walks into a room of students who don’t yet have the words to tell you what they need — and you find them anyway, through music. You don’t wait to be told what to do next. You plan ahead, show up ready, and bring your whole self to every classroom. You bring:
• A genuine heart for the special needs population — You find deep meaning in working with students who have complex needs, approaching every child with patience, creativity, and joy.
• Strong musical skills — You are a confident, expressive, and versatile musician who can lead singing, play instruments, and captivate a classroom through music.
• Self-starter energy — You manage work closely with our administrative staff to create and maintain your schedule, prepare your materials, and solve problems independently without needing close supervision.
• Rock-solid dependability — Schools and students count on you, and you take that responsibility seriously. Your commitment never wavers.
• Strong organizational skills — You juggle multiple school sites, classroom contacts, student needs, and administrative tasks without dropping the ball.
• Leadership presence — You lead a classroom with calm authority and warmth, earning the trust of both students and school staff from day one.
• An exceptional work ethic — You bring your full effort and energy every single time, whether it’s the first class of the day or the last.
• Commitment to the mission — You believe every child deserves access to music, and you show up for that belief every day.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Music Together® certification (or willingness to complete required training prior to start)
• Experience working with children with special needs strongly preferred
• Background in music education, child development, special education, or a related field
• Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation (travel to multiple school sites required)
