AES is a Fortune 500 renewable energy company dedicated to powering a cleaner future. The AES Operations team is looking for an experienced Solar Technician II to play a pivotal role in ensuring our portfolio exceeds industry best‑practice standards.
Position:Solar Technician II
Based at the Bellefield Solar project in Mojave, CA. Candidates must live in the Lancaster/Mojave/Tehachapi area and commute daily to the site using their own transportation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Perform assigned O&M activities for utility‑scale solar PV sites and substations in Southern California.
- Conduct corrective, preventive and emergency maintenance on equipment including inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, PV modules and DC/AC collection systems.
- Execute routine maintenance tasks such as electrical repairs, instrumentation, calibration and basic inverter troubleshooting within the scope of the work order system.
- Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders and operate electrical and mechanical plant systems.
- Participate in required training and assist with plant procedural documentation.
- Support site vegetation management activities, including operation of tractors and mowers.
- Write and update plant orders, procedures, operating instructions and other documentation as assigned.
- Ensure all work meets environmental and safety requirements and follows OSHA, NFPA 855 and other applicable regulations.
- Work independently or in crews based on skill level and task requirements.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and proficiency in LOTO and electrical safety practices.
- Experience with electrical systems, SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, multi‑functional, geographically diverse organization.

- High school diploma or GED (preferred: technical degree or solar certification).
- At least two years as an Energy Storage O&M technician.
- Five or more years in power generation with journeyman electrical or mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of electrical measurements, control circuits and fundamental theory.
- OSHA 10 and NFPA 70e certifications.
- Knowledge of NFPA 855.
Work is conducted outdoors at solar power plants and may require exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, working at heights, and use of personal protective equipment. Duties include standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders and operating equipment. Overtime and non‑standard hours, as well as travel to additional sites, may be required.
Compensation and BenefitsHourly rate $35.00‑$42.07, with base pay varying by factors such as location, experience and skill level. Additional annual bonus is offered. Benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage; life insurance; 401(k) eligibility; and paid time off (vacation, sick leave, parental leave). Employment is at‑will and the company reserves the right to modify base salary and other compensation as needed.
