Calpine Corporation seeks a General Plant Manager to lead safe, reliable operations of a natural gas-fired and geothermal power facility. This role oversees all plant functions, including operations, maintenance, and environmental compliance, ensuring high availability and efficiency while meeting strict safety and regulatory standards. The General Plant Manager manages budgets and KPIs, drives data-driven performance improvements, and leads a skilled team focused on accountability and continuous improvement.

You will collaborate closely with market operations and corporate groups to support grid reliability, cleaner energy initiatives, and long-term asset performance in a dynamic, analytical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead overall operations of a natural gas and geothermal power plant to ensure safe, reliable generation.
  • Drive compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee maintenance, reliability, and optimization of plant equipment and systems.
  • Manage plant budget, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Use data and KPIs to improve efficiency, availability, and performance.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop operations and maintenance teams.
  • Coordinate with commercial, market operations, and corporate functions.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Champion continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Support sustainability and cleaner energy goals across the fleet.

Required Skills

  • Power plant operations and systems (gas and/or geothermal)
  • Safety and environmental compliance (OSHA, EPA, NERC, etc.)
  • Maintenance and reliability engineering concepts
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
  • Data analysis, KPIs, and performance optimization
  • Leadership and team management in industrial settings
  • Root cause analysis and incident investigation
  • Regulatory and permitting knowledge for power facilities
  • CMMS and plant information systems (e.g., PI, SCADA)
