Senior Metallurgist
Location: 67750 Bailey Road HC-1 Box 224 Mountain Pass, CA 92366
Responsibilities- Interfacing with QA, new product development, process control and monitoring.
- Work in the Process Technology and Engineering Department and report directly to the Lead Metallurgical Engineer.
- Plan, conduct, assist with metallurgical study, development, testing and analysis of design, process, and procedure at mill facility.
- Monitor and direct changes to key operating parameters of all production circuits.
- Report metallurgical or process issues and make recommendations on how to solve issues.
- Monitor daily analytical reports with respect to process circuits.
- Ongoing process improvement efforts around feed consistency, grinding, hydrocyclone separation, conditioning, flotation, recovery by size, reagent selection, and plant throughput.
- Create and maintain operation and process documentation such as log sheets and SOPs.
- Maintain PFDs, P&IDs, process control procedures, and design basis procedures.
- Provide technical training on new technology to operators.
- Identify and scope out small and medium capital project needs, participate on large capital project teams.
- Work with purchasing, vendors, maintenance, contractors, operators, and other team members to complete daily tasks and projects.
- Perform laboratory test work to investigate, troubleshoot, and improve operations.
- Track raw material usage and conversion, create, and maintain material reports in SAP.
- Work with QA and customer service to address any product quality or customer complaints.
- Startup and commissioning of new equipment and processes.
- Follow all company, industry and regulatory procedures and laws to ensure safe work by oneself and the company.
- Complete Management of Change (MOC) paperwork, drive, and document changes.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Five (5) years of post-baccalaureate experience as a Metallurgical Engineer or related field within the mining field.
- Experience must include: JK Sim Met;
Particle Size Analyzer; optimization of metallurgical processes; production planning and forecasting; and conducting circuit inspections, reagent tracking, and sampling.
