Starting Salary (depending on experience, generally at Step I):
Junior Engineer, Salary Grade 14 $ 82,156.54
Assistant Engineer, Salary Grade 18 $
Associate Engineer, Salary Grade 24 $
Senior Engineer, Salary Grade 26 $

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience, which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Junior: The equivalent to graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field obtained by the time of appointment, or possession of an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certificate and 0 to 2 years' experience. Possession of an E.I.T is required upon the first year of employment. This class is distinguished by the reliance on instructions and pre‑established guidelines and works under immediate supervision without typical independent judgment.
  • Assistant: The equivalent to graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field. In addition, three (3) to five (5) years of professional level mechanical engineering experience and possession of an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certificate. A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience.

    This class distinguishes by leading others, creativity, and latitude; works under supervision and typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
  • Associate: Possession of valid Certificate of Registration as a Mechanical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration. In addition, the equivalent to graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field; and five (5) or more years of professional level mechanical engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a position involving project or resident engineer work.

    A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of such experience. This class distinguishes by leading others, wide creativity and latitude, reliance on judgment, and reporting to a supervisor or manager.
  • Senior: Possession of valid Certificate of Registration as a Mechanical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration. In addition, the equivalent to graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field; and ten (10) or more years of professional level mechanical engineering experience, five (5) years of which must have been in a position involving project or resident engineer work.

    A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of such experience. This class distinguishes by leading others, wide creativity and latitude, reliance on judgment, and reporting to a supervisor or manager.

Junior

This is the entry level in the professional engineering series. Under direct supervision, performs difficult and complex technical engineering support work involved with the operation, maintenance and repair projects and programs for the Authority facilities; may act as project planner/coordinator on repair, maintenance and construction projects; may participate on a project team on Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Department projects & programs; and may do manual and computer‑aided design and drafting work.
