To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking a Metrology Technician at Level II or III to support manufacturing operations. The Metrology Technician will ensure the precision and accuracy of measurement systems, tools and components. This position involves operating advanced metrology equipment, supporting vehicle integration of manufactured assemblies, manufacturing tooling setup, performing inspections, troubleshooting measurement challenges and maintaining the integrity of metrology processes.
Candidates must have a manufacturing development background and relevant experience in complex systems integration.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional with a strong technical background in tooling fabrication and advanced manufacturing support. They possess expertise in operating and troubleshooting advanced metrology equipment, such as laser trackers and portable arms, and have a proven ability to integrate CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, CATIA or AutoCAD) into alignment workflows. This individual excels in precision measurement and dimensional analysis, with a deep understanding of GD&T principles and their application to complex manufacturing and tooling.
Key Responsibilities Level II- Operate advanced metrology equipment, including trackers, arms and projectors.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of coordinate systems and alignment principles.
- Assist on tooling alignment and positioning and physical setup of complex tooling.
- Perform alignment tasks, including part location and establishing reference systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues to ensure data accuracy.
- Prepare detailed reports for engineering to review results and data accuracy.
- Collaborate with engineers and team leads to resolve measurement‑related challenges and improve manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrate expert‑level proficiency with all metrology tools and systems, including trackers, arms and projectors.
- Solve complex design, installation and alignment challenges to ensure precision and reduce defects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve the most challenging measurement‑related issues.
- Perform drift checks and validate reference systems to ensure tooling and tracker stability.
- Identify and implement improvements to metrology processes, reducing defects and enhancing production efficiency.
- Fabricate and assemble hard‑tooling structures with zero workmanship defects.
- Partner with engineers to clarify and resolve discrepancies in work instructions and procedures.
- Provide technical solutions and recommendations to improve accuracy and reliability.
- Proficiency in using advanced metrology equipment, including trackers, arms, projectors and CMMs.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and coordinate systems.
- Experience troubleshooting metrology equipment and resolving measurement‑related issues.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, work instructions and engineering specifications.
- Problem‑solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong technical knowledge of aerospace standards, fabrication methods and integration practices.
- Ability to thrive in a hybrid environment that balances structured production with rapid prototyping needs.
- Excellent communication skills and cross‑functional collaboration experience.
- Certification in GD&T, CMM programming or Laser Tracker operation.
- CAD proficiency in software such as NX, Solid Works, CATIA or AutoCAD.
- Experience in aerospace or high‑precision manufacturing environments.
- Vehicle‑level integration experience.
- Experience with MES systems, production documentation and reporting tools.
- Lean/continuous improvement certifications (Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.).
- Background in aerospace startups, R&D or advanced manufacturing environments.
