As a Financial Reporting Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing the preparation, review, and submission of financial statements, management reports, regulatory reports, and related supporting schedules. This role ensures that financial reporting is accurate, complete, timely, and prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP, applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies, and company control standards. The position partners closely with Accounting, Treasury, Capital Markets, Servicing, Secondary Marketing, Compliance, Legal, Financial Planning and Analysis, Internal Audit, external auditors, and senior management.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting close process for mortgage-related business activity.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, regulatory reports, lender reporting packages, and internal reporting schedules.
- Review supporting work papers and ensure balances reconcile to the general ledger, subledger systems, servicing systems and other source data.
- Analyze mortgage banking activity, including loan origination and sale activity, loans held for sale, mortgage servicing rights, servicing revenue, fair value adjustments, derivatives, warehouse or borrowing activity, and related income statement impacts.
- Ensure reporting deliverables comply with U.S. GAAP, company accounting policies, disclosure requirements, investor requirements, agency requirements, and applicable state and federal mortgage reporting obligations.
- Support SEC reporting, audited financial statements, Management's Discussion and Analysis, and related disclosure controls when applicable.
- Coordinate with internal teams to obtain, validate, and explain financial data used in reporting packages and audit deliverables.
- Prepare and review variance analyses, flux explanations, trend analyses, and management commentary for significant balance sheet and income statement fluctuations.
- Manage reporting calendars, assignment tracking, review sign-offs, and documentation standards to ensure deadlines are met.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, responding to audit requests, and resolving questions regarding reported balances, processes, controls, and documentation.
- Supervise, train, and develop financial reporting staff, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, providing feedback, and supporting professional development.
- Establish clear expectations for workpaper quality, reconciliation support, audit readiness, and review documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, enhance controls, reduce manual effort, and increase consistency across reporting deliverables.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to understand business changes, new products, system changes, transactions, and accounting or reporting impacts.
- Maintain effective communication with senior management, business partners, auditors, and regulators as needed.
- Promote a strong control environment by ensuring reporting activities are performed in accordance with company policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
- 4+ years of related experience in Accounting, Finance (GL Mgmt., Public Reporting, Analysis) or similar field.
- Bachelor's degree in related field required;
Masters or MBA in related field preferred. - Previous leadership experience required.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
- Intermediate to advanced experience with a Big 4 (or top tier) audit firm and/or current SEC reporting experience at a public company.
- Intermediate to advanced ability to work independently and balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
- Certified Public Accountant required.
