Job Summary
Police Clerk – Anchorage Police Department Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) Open to the general public and current Municipal employees. Applicants must be willing to work various shifts as determined by the supervisor.
Responsibilities- Type various reports, letters, and memoranda using word processing equipment.
- Enter data from police reports into computer systems including NCIC, APSIN, and Tiburon.
- Compose routine correspondence.
- Greet the public in person and by phone, receive complaints, answer questions, and provide information.
- Gather appropriate data from complaints, then compose and type appropriate reports.
- Compute bail, process traffic citations and parking violations.
- Maintain a cash journal for the receipt of all monies for permits, licenses, fees, and bail.
- Provide court testimony as required.
- Gather and compile information, produce various reports as assigned.
- Perform filing, copying, sorting, phone, and other clerical duties.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in office and clerical work.
- Typing speed of 35 words per minute net.
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, File Maker Pro, NCIC/APSIN, and Tiburon is preferred.
- Preference given to Anchorage Police Department employees.
- Current APD employees are exempt from the Nelson/Denny Reading Comprehension exam.
- Nelson/Denny Reading Comprehension exam (valid one year).
- Assessment interview.
- Background investigation.
- Condition of employment: successful drug screening.
Hourly salary increases 20% after six months of successful training, and a 3% increase in January (subject to schedule). Eligible employees receive:
