This position requires a flexible work schedule, including availability to work rotating shifts, evenings, nights, and weekends. The position follows a 9/80 work schedule, with regular hours Wednesday through Sunday, including evenings and weekends. Hours are subject to change based on operational needs. Bilingual skills are highly desirable as you serve our diverse community.

Under direct to general supervision, performs a variety of field code enforcement activities; inspects residential, commercial and industrial properties, and transient businesses to determine compliance with applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws, regulations and ordinances relating to maintenance of properties and structures and business licensing; initiates enforcement action and issues citations and notices; and performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Code Enforcement Officer I:
This is the entry level and training class in the Code Enforcement Officer series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents are responsible for performing routine field inspections of public and private property to ensure compliance with City municipal and building code provisions. Because this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have limited or no directly related work experience.
An employee in this class is expected to read and interpret municipal codes and have a working knowledge building construction. This class is distinguished from the Code Enforcement Officer II by the performance of the less complex inspections assigned to positions within the series. Flex Staffing:
Positions in the Code Enforcement Officer Series are flexibly staffed and positions are normally filled by advancement within the series, upon fully performing the duties and responsibilities, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities, and meeting the requirements for the higher class, as determined by management.
Receives direct supervision (Code Enforcement Officer I) or general supervision (Code Enforcement Officer II) from the Code Enforcement Supervisor and/or higher level management. Receives lead direction from the Senior Code Enforcement Officer.
Knowledge of: modern principles, practices, and methods used in a municipal code enforcement program; laws, ordinances, and codes regulating housing and building, business license, fire, and health; applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and organizational policies and procedures relevant to assigned area of responsibility; methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments; methods and techniques used in enforcement and investigation;
law enforcement procedures and administrative techniques; rules of evidence and court procedures; basic principles of mathematics; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work; occupational hazards and standard safety practices; recent and on-going developments, current literature, and sources of information related to residential, commercial and industrial code inspection;
