Deputy Probation Officer

Amador County is offering a position for Deputy Probation Officers at various levels. This role involves investigating cases of juvenile delinquency, status offenders, and adult referrals for probations, supervising a caseload of assigned probationers, and performing related work as required.

Deputy Probation Officer I:

Under general supervision, to investigate cases of juvenile delinquency, status offenders and adult referral for probations; to supervise a caseload of assigned probationers; and to do related work as required.

Deputy Probation Officer II:

Under direction, to perform professional case work services for adults and juvenile offenders involving the referral, supervision and rehabilitation of adult and juvenile offenders and/or their families; and to do related work as required.

Deputy Probation Officer III:

Under direction, to provide lead supervision and direction for other Department staff; may schedule training and ensure staff compliance with training requirements; to perform the more complex professional case work services for adults and juvenile offenders involving the referral, supervision and rehabilitation of adults and juveniles and/or their families; and to do related work as required.

The job reports to the Chief Probation Officer, Chief Deputy Probation Officer, and/or Unit Supervisor. There are no classifications supervised.

Examples of duties include receiving cases, conducting inquiries, interviewing clients, preparing court reports, monitoring behavior, and cooperating with various agencies.

Essential qualifications and training and experience requirements vary by level, but generally include knowledge of laws, probation casework, psychology, and community resources, as well as abilities to interview, report, and work cooperatively.

Physical requirements include sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, lifting, and having normal manual dexterity and vision. Working conditions involve continuous contact with staff and the public in both office and field environments.
