The Air Force Test Center (AFTC) is looking for a Full-Time Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (NH-0018-03) to work at Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) at 412 TW/OL-Plant 42/SE at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, CA.
The purpose of this position is to execute the Air Force Plant 42 Weapons Safety and Occupational Safety/Health Programs. Conducts mishap investigations at the Industrial Plant to find causes and prevent recurrence. Position is located at the 412th Test Wing Operating Location Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale CA 93550.

- Qualified Occupation Safety Specialist
- Ability to attend and pass the Weapons Safety Manager school within 18 months of hire date.
- Ability to perform all Occupational mishap investigations IAW Air Force instruction to conclusion, and the ability to determine the root cause and provide a feasible recommendation to eliminate the likelihood of a repeat occurrence.
- Must perform a broad range of weapons and occupational safety duties in one or more areas of weapons, occupational and safety.
- Must Perform periodic inspections and evaluations on numerous programs such as high-risk activity programs, supervisory safety training, and emergency/disaster preparedness to deter recurrence and ensures compliance with appropriate occupational safety and health regulations.
- Plan and carry out formal investigations of reportable and non-reportable mishaps involving personal injury accidents, property damage, and cases of occupational illnesses covering a wide range of work operations.
- Review plan and specifications for new construction, major building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment and monitors project through completion to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards.
- Prepare and/or revise standard local safety instructions and guides such as local supervisory safety guide and unit safety representative guide that are relevant to base employees and current or planned contractor operations.
- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period. Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

- Incumbent is required to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required;
Airfield driver's license also required. - Subject to Temporary Duty assignment for approximately 14 days per year
- Knowledge of numerous established safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation ground safety program; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident and mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of normal occupational safety problems/health risks, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluating normal occupational safety and health risks.
