THE OPPORTUNITYSheriff's Emergency Call Takers have the opportunity to serve their communities in a unique way; following the Sheriff's Vision of Total Care and connecting services to citizens in their time of need. Call Takers are assigned to the Public Safety Facility in Placerville, CA.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Receive, analyze, and evaluate 911 emergency, non-emergency and business calls, including inquiries and complaints regarding fire, ambulance, roads, animal services, and maintenance; transfer calls to appropriate department, party, or agency.
- Provide information and assistance to callers for law enforcement related services.
- Evaluate the necessary response as dictated by a given request for service; determines nature, location, and priority of calls; operate computer aided dispatch system to create calls for service; transfer calls to other parties and appropriate agency in accordance with established procedures.
- Operate multiple communications devices and systems concurrently to ensure appropriate response to calls and continuously updates information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCESheriff’s Personnel Unit will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations. A combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; however, education may not solely substitute for the required experience.
Equivalent to graduation from high school; AND One (1) year of public contact.
Licenses and Certifications- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Public Safety Dispatchers’ Basic Course certification and complete the coursework required by POST within twelve (12) months of appointment.
The Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. Those applicants who meet the minimum requirements for this position will be required to complete a pre-investigative Questionnaire (PIQ). Based on the information provided, applicants may be disqualified based on criteria set forth in Part 7, Section 706.1 of the County of El Dorado Personnel Rules and in conjunction with Sheriff’s Selection Policy 1000.
After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

Criti Call Computer Exam (Weighted 100%)The Criti Call exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The examination will be administered remotely and has been scheduled for November 12th, 2026 - November 15th, 2026. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email prior to the examination.
