Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant/CNA/GNA works as part of the clinical team. This role functions within established clinical protocols and assists the patient care team within the scope of Maryland Nurse Practice Act. The MA/CNA/GNA may be assigned specific responsibility for certain direct patient services.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure all patients enjoy a positive experience, and are treated with care and compassion
- Ensure the safe, productive, and efficient operation of the clinic through timely and efficient administrative and clinical support as authorized or licensed
- Prepare patient and chart for clinical exam/visit, including the collection of typical patient vital metrics (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight etc.)
- Assist provider with clinical visit
- Maintain working knowledge of company medical processes
- Participate in daily huddle with patient care team, staff meetings and training as required
- Serve as backup to medical receptionist positions and provide relief and support to medical receptionist functions as requested and as designated
- Restock exam rooms and office supplies as needed
- Provide service in a manner that is appropriate for each patient and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Ensure and uphold the confidentially requirements of all patient records and manage all daily tasks and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations; and the clinical policies and regulations regarding confidentiality and security
- Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes, and related duties comply with regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as policies and procedures.
- Uphold and ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, mission, and values.
- Assist other team members as requested.
- Succinctly explain company policies and procedures, including billing and payment
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area
- Print statements as requested by patients
- Ensure all necessary paperwork is prepared for the next workday
- Responsible for the operating, using and maintaining medical and office equipment as trained
Primary
Job Duties:
- Greet patients in waiting area, assure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, escort patients to discharge counter.
- Obtain patient history; assess/triage patient, measure vital signs, and record information in the medical record/EMR.
- Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
- Carry out Standing Orders as applicable prior to patient being seen by the provider according to written protocol.
- Position instruments and equipment and hand to provider as directed.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use.
- Administer injections, medications, eye and ear irrigations, dress/bandage wound and incisions, start/monitor IV, draw blood according to written order, and assist provider with any procedures.
- Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow and inhalation treatment equipment.
- Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood and collect, label and process specimens for reference lab according to physician orders.
- Complete medical record to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
- Perform patient call backs, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Ensure all patient and patient related telephone calls are documented in the medical record/EMR.
- Restock examination rooms with adequate supplies.
- Monitor disposable inventory and notifies appropriate persons of supplies and pharmaceuticals needed
- Perform quality checks on medical equipment including CLIA waived controls.
- Demonstrate ongoing competency and proficiency in clinical job requirements.
- Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary.
- Assist with the orientation of new personnel.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strong visual, verbal, written and typed communication skills
- Strong critical-thinking skills to maintain detailed and accurate patient records and related administrative documentation
- Proficiency with computers and ability to use requisite tools, systems, technology and equipment in the collection of patient data
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks simultaneously
