The Mental Health Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) within the Behavioral Medical Unit. This role supports patients through therapeutic engagement, safety monitoring, and assistance with daily living activities while contributing to a structured behavioral health treatment environment.
ScheduleNight Shift
3 x 12-hour shifts
6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
No call required
ResponsibilitiesAssist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, dressing, hygiene, ambulation, transfers
Support therapeutic programming and structured group activities
Conduct patient safety checks and monitoring per policy
Implement psychosocial interventions under RN direction
Facilitate or co-facilitate therapeutic groups
Utilize crisis intervention techniques including CPI/TEAM when necessary
Recognize and report abnormal behaviors or physical symptoms to RN
Participate in care planning and documentation
Support patients and families through empathetic communication and education
Assist with clerical tasks including admissions paperwork and documentation
Requirements Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associate’s or Technical Degree (Preferred)
Minimum 2 years behavioral healthcare experience (Preferred)
CertificationsAHA or ARC BLS (Required)
CPI or TEAM certification (Required)
CNA Certification (Preferred)
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (Preferred)
Management of Assaultive Behavior (Preferred)
