Position: FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST with Security Clearance
Location: March Air Force Base

Duties Help (Continued from Summary): provide consultation, direction and guidance regarding all aspects of Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety. (Duties):
* As the department's Health and Safety Officer (HSO), plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities necessary to implement a comprehensive Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program.
* Prepares and develops specialized Flight Management Plans and Standard Operation Policies/Guides defining mishap prevention, handling, and storage procedures based on interpretation and/or adaptation of instructions and policies formulated by higher headquarters or other federal government agencies.
* As the department's Hazardous Materials Response Program Manager, manages the various program elements to prepare, equip, and respond to emergencies involving the release or potential release of hazardous materials into the environment.
* As the primary Incident Safety Officer (ISO), participate within the incident management system as a command staff member and respond in accordance with SOP/SOG to emergency incidents.
* Plans investigations and analyzes mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes, and contributing elements and prepares written reports concerning findings. Requirements Help Conditions of employment

* Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
* Area of Consideration is limited to Internal to the Department of War.
* Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
* This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
* Duties may require wear of firefighting personal protective equipment with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and entering environments designated as immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
* This position is designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force civilian drug-testing program. As a mandatory requirement for employment in the TDP, the incumbent is to - * (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and (b) if required, submit to urinalysis testing. The selectee must sign statements acknowledging the position is identified as a TDP.

* Incumbent may be required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty consisting of a 56- or 60-hour work schedule, with supervisor's approval.
* Subject to recall in the event of real fire/disaster emergencies. Incumbent may also be required to take part in test alerts and practice readiness exercises.
* Required to participate in a physical fitness program and pass an annual physical.
* Physical demands include heavy lifting, walking, crawling, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, climbing, and is required to maintain physical fitness requirements necessary to perform the job.
* Work environment may include outside work and inside work, excessive heat and cold, dust, smoke, water, fumes, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, above or below ground, and irregular hours of work; i.e. day and or night.
* This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
* Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
