Overview

Job Title: Obstetrical Technician (OB Technician)

This position supports the healthcare team in providing patient care during labor, delivery, recovery, and obstetrical surgical procedures. The OB Technician performs surgical scrub duties, prepares operating and patient care areas, assists with obstetrical procedures, supports patient care before and after surgery, and helps maintain a safe, sterile environment.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required
  • Surgical Technician or Obstetrical Technician certification preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, obstetrical procedures, and patient care practices
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient care during labor, delivery, recovery, and obstetrical surgical procedures.
  • Prepare patient rooms and operating rooms for obstetrical procedures.
  • Set up sterile instruments and supplies using proper aseptic techniques.
  • Assist surgeons, nurses, and the surgical team during operative procedures.
  • Participate in surgical time-outs and maintain sterile fields throughout procedures.
  • Assist nursing staff with patient preparation, positioning, transport, transfers, and discharge.
  • Collect urinalysis (UA) specimens and record maternal vital signs, weight, height, and intake/output measurements.
  • Provide personal care and assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Maintain adequate supplies and assist with room turnover following procedures.
  • Ensure patient safety and maintain accurate documentation as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
