RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST - CT and GENERAL RADIOLOGY

$40.17 - $59.09 per hour

Performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in CQI activities.

QUALIFICATIONS And SKILLS
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a Radiologic Technology program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Certified by the State of California to practice and administer radiation.

  • Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is desirable.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • One year of experience under a Board-Certified Radiologist.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages are preferred.
  • Above Basic Computer Skills. Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems. An ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software systems (e.g., RIS, PACS, EMR).
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Basic understanding of cross-sectional anatomy preferred.
ROLES And RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Operate and maintain various types of radiologic equipment, select appropriate technical factors, process and manage digital images within the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Selects appropriate equipment to use for the procedure.

Obtains appropriate lab results (eGFR, HCG), patient history and parent consents prior to procedure being performed.

Verifies patient identification using facility protocols (e.g., checking armbands, confirming name and date of birth) prior to the start of any procedure.

  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.

Instructs and prepares patients for roentgenographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations.

  • Apply principles of radiation protection, including shielding patients, practicing safe distances, and using collimation effectively, in compliance with federal, state, and departmental standards, and always wears radiation dosimetry badge.
  • Appropriate use of patient shielding when indicated.
  • Make sure all images are marked correctly with lead markers.
  • Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.
  • Aid in the organization and maintenance of departmental files as needed.
  • Provides direction or assistance to patients, families, and visitors in a courteous and positive manner.
  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic radiographic procedures, including but not limited to general radiography, fluoroscopy, and portable X-ray examinations, and CT scans on patients of all ages.
  • Responsible for upholding the orderliness and cleanliness of the Radiology equipment and exam areas, as well as managing adequate supply inventory.

Actively participates in departmental quality assurance and performance improvement activities, including image review and correlation.

  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all patient records, strictly adhering to HIPAA guidelines in all patient-related discussions.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of, and adherence to, all hospital policies, departmental functions, and local fire/safety regulations.
