The Funeral Director & Embalmer is responsible for assisting families from the initial notification of death through final disposition and post-service follow-up. The position combines funeral arranging, embalming and preparation, service coordination, regulatory documentation, transportation and family care.

The individual must demonstrate excellent professional judgment, compassion, organization and communication skills while maintaining the dignity of the deceased and respecting the wishes, traditions and beliefs of each family.

Because Brune Mortuary serves communities across the Eastern Sierra, the position requires someone who is comfortable working independently, accepting meaningful responsibility and becoming a trusted member of the community.

• Meet with families to make at-need funeral and cremation arrangements and guide them through available service and merchandise options without undue pressure.
• Explain funeral, burial, cremation, memorialization and disposition options clearly and compassionately.
• Prepare and coordinate traditional funerals, graveside services, memorial services, celebrations of life and cremation arrangements.
• Embalm, prepare, dress, cosmetize, casket and otherwise care for deceased persons according to professional standards, applicable laws and family wishes.
• Perform or assist with removals and transfers from residences, hospitals, nursing facilities, coroner facilities and other locations.
• Obtain necessary permits, authorizations, vital-statistics information and other documentation required for funeral and disposition arrangements.
• Coordinate with cemeteries, crematories, clergy, churches, veterans' organizations, government agencies, florists, newspapers and other service providers.
• Direct funeral and memorial services and coordinate processions, visitations and graveside ceremonies.
• Assist families with obituary information, memorial folders, photographs, personalized service elements and other meaningful tributes.
• Coordinate veterans' honors, flag presentations and other ceremonial elements when appropriate.
