Under general direction, to perform the most complex, specialized work in the development of County computerized information systems and networks; to provide a variety of user support; to maintain database systems; to integrate database systems with other information systems; to facilitate and develop computer networks within the County; to provide support and training for other personnel on the use of databases, computer networks, and information systems;
to provide lead direction and work coordination for other Information Technology staff; and to do related work as required. (The following is used as a partial description and is not restrictive as to duties required.)
Performs a variety of the most complex work in the development and maintenance of computerized information systems and networks; provides work coordination and lead direction for other Information System Specialists; develops systems and applications to enhance the accomplishment of County and department functions and services; may program applications and modify existing programs to facilitate system operations and efficiency; installs and formats packaged software for stand‑alone personal computers and/or networks;
diagnoses equipment malfunctions, repairing and maintaining data processing equipment, or contacting appropriate vendors to resolve problems; provides technical advice on computerized information system uses and applications to County and Department management and staff; trains others in the use of data processing equipment and systems; receives, prioritizes, and responds to user requests for assistance, problem‑solving, and services; performs and coordinates a variety of complex projects, such as installation of major servers and systems;
assists with facilitating the development of computer networks; works with the Director of Information Services in the development and utilization of computer services; represents the County’s Information Services unit with other County departments, vendors, and government agencies.
- Knowledge of current data processing hardware and software technology.
- Knowledge of electronic data processing theory, principles, and practices and their application to computerized information system development and maintenance.
- Development and use of computer networks and communications systems.
- Principles and methods of programming, systems, and procedures analysis.
- Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) computer operating and network systems, information technology principles, techniques and capabilities including office automation, mini‑and personal computers and peripheral devices.
- Development and utilization of computer networks and communication systems.
- Maintenance, operations, and repair of computers and associated peripheral equipment.
- Principles of lead direction, work coordination, and training.
- Serve as a primary resource on the utilization and development of County computer equipment and software.
- Provide lead direction and work coordination for other Information System Specialist staff.
- Maintain and modify computerized information systems, including networks and database applications.
- Train and assist users in the use of computer equipment and software.
- Analyze County data processing needs and develop applications to meet those needs.
- Monitor and maintain existing systems to insure the accuracy and timeliness of information services.
- Analyze software problems and facilitate corrections.
- Identify hardware malfunctions and facilitate repairs.
- Prepare a variety of reports.
- Gather, organize, analyze, and present a variety of information.
- Make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
- Effectively represent County Information Services with other staff and agencies.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
