Our client, a well-established and growing manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and continuously improve environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple facilities. This leadership role is responsible for fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing environmental initiatives, and driving operational excellence through proactive risk management and employee engagement.

The ideal candidate is a strategic safety leader with extensive manufacturing experience, deep knowledge of California regulatory requirements, and a proven track record of implementing successful EHS programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of environmental, health, and safety programs across company facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including CalOSHA and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Manage and continuously improve safety programs including:
    • Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
    • Process Safety Management (PSM)
    • Confined Space Programs
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Hearing Conservation
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Powered Industrial Trucks
    • Emergency Action Plans
    • Contractor Safety Programs
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs such as:
    • Risk Management Plans (RMP)
    • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
    • Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans (SPCC)
    • CUPA requirements
    • SCAQMD compliance
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies including CalOSHA, CalEPA, DTSC, CUPA, SCAQMD, and State Water Boards.
  • Develop, implement, and audit EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct facility audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Analyze injury trends, near misses, and property damage incidents to identify root causes and implement preventative measures.
  • Lead employee training programs and safety awareness initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership teams to strengthen safety culture and drive accountability.
  • Manage environmental and safety consultants as needed.
  • Collaborate with workers' compensation and insurance loss prevention partners to reduce risk and improve workplace safety.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
  • Support sustainability and waste reduction initiatives across the organization.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience managing environmental, health, and safety programs within a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Strong background in EHS program management and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated success leading safety culture transformation and behavior-based safety initiatives.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence employees and leadership at all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between facilities.

Preferred

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Experience working within multi-site manufacturing operations.
Desired Skills
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Ability to interpret technical regulations, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a proven ability to drive change.
  • Experience using various software platforms for reporting, compliance tracking, and data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, identify risks, and implement effective solutions.
