Position: Flight Test Tech 3/4 (A&P License Required)
Location: Edwards Air Force Base

Job Title: A&P Certified Flight Test Tech (Levels 3/4)

Location: Palmdale, CA or Edwards AFB, CA

Relocation Assistance: None available

Clearance: Secret required for start; ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret and SAP clearance; ongoing background investigations

Travel: Up to 25% of the time

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform developmental, experimental, and production aircraft maintenance and engineering support, including repair, modification, installation, testing, checkout, fabrication, and assembly of electrical/electronic, mechanical, instrumentation, and electro‑mechanical systems, prototypes, and specialized test equipment.
  • Instruct, coordinate, and perform flight test duties, determining sequencing for installing, removing, maintaining, repairing, or fabricating critical aircraft components and systems.
  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain complex aircraft equipment, devices, and systems; conduct operational and environmental tests; diagnose and isolate malfunctions down to component level; perform defined engineering tests and collect required data.
  • Interpret incomplete engineering data, blueprints, drawings, schematics, technical orders, repair manuals, layouts, diagrams, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Execute drilling, reaming, fitting, assembly, trimming, riveting, splicing, insulating, and related duties.
  • Notify lead personnel of malfunctions, defects, and damage; verify completeness and accuracy of work; perform production accountability duties including processing, verification, quality auditing, and inspection of assemblies, parts, and tooling.
  • Exclude trainees lacking academic preparation or experience.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Employment Conditions

Full‑time, on‑site. No remote or hybrid work.

Shifts:

4×10 schedule (Mon‑Thurs) 1st and 2nd shifts; 3×10 schedule (Fri‑Sun) 1st and 2nd shifts.

Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 4 years of related professional or military experience (Level 3 requires 6 years).
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance (investigation within last 6 years or enrolled in continuous evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Top Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Experience working in a production or test environment.
  • Familiarity with aspects of systems test.
  • Capability to lift 30lbs, and perform moderate strenuous physical tasks (bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 40lbs, working overhead).
  • Access to small, confined spaces and enclosed environments.
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS Office).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Top Secret or higher clearance (investigation within last 5 years or enrolled in continuous evaluation).
  • Current SAP clearance.
  • Good soldering and crimp skills; cable and harness fabrication per engineering drawings.
  • Certification in solder & crimp (a plus).
  • Familiarity with testing and troubleshooting using Ethernet, 1553, ARINC, RS‑488, 232 interfaces.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and small power tools.

  • Secondary level salary range: $79,100.00 – $.
