Log Scaler

Log Scalers earn from $26.76 to $36.66 per hour. We train and promote from within. Excellent low-cost health benefits. Retirement plan with employer-paid contributions. Paid vacation and 10 holidays.

The role is to work collaboratively at the sawmill in Quincy, California.

• Measure logs to determine scale (volume) and quality (grade)
• Pass scale checks conducted by Sierra Pacific and outside inspection agencies
• Be proficient in scaling rules and procedures
• Safely and efficiently operate log yard equipment, including front-end loader and water truck
• Work to support continuous improvement and overall quality efforts
• Recognize problems and take initiative to promptly correct them
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments
• Adhere to all safety policies and perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner
• Operate hand-held computer

• Currently a Certified Log Scaler
• One year of recent experience as a Certified Log Scaler
• Proven knowledge of log grades and species identification
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to solve simple and moderate math problems
• Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
