Job Title

Within the Sèvres manufacturing department, under the responsibility of the head of the decoration service, the workshop leader is responsible for organizing, in compliance with health and safety rules, the proper execution of all workshop tasks. They ensure the transmission of their know-how. In this role, they are responsible for:

1) Organizing and participating in production:

• Ensure the proper supply of the workshop with tools and raw materials, managing the stocks. They evaluate the requests, define the priorities;
• Define, in conjunction with their hierarchy, the execution times for the different phases of the work;
• Ensure the distribution of work according to the objectives, priorities, and defined deadlines;
• Guarantee and control the quality of the workshop's production;
• Lay the different shades of Sèvres blue (gros bleu, bleu nuagé, bleu lapis, bleu granité, bleu agate), lay uniform or gradient backgrounds of grand feu over-covers and all colors of petit feu, with or without reserve;
• Prepare the colors for their application on ceramics;
• Implement and trace the distribution of reserves on pieces;
• Create effects of materials imitating hard stones (marble, lapis lazuli…);
• Control the drying times according to the nature of the colors;
• Know precisely the firing temperatures of the colors according to their nature (small or large fire) and according to their supports (PN, PT, PD, PAA, stoneware, with or without glaze);
• Ensure compliance with hygiene and safety guidelines and contribute, in conjunction with the health and safety mission and the production engineer, to the continuous improvement of workstations;
• In collaboration with artists on contemporary projects, be a force of proposal in the study and technical development;
• Write and update technical sheets for each project concerning the workshop;
• Establish each year a balance of the workshop's activity.

2) Animating the team and accompanying the development of skills:

• Organize the work of their team to ensure the continuity of production and provide supervision (setting objectives, evaluation, information transmission, conflict management…);
• Provide the workshop agents with the necessary advice and expertise for the proper execution;
• Ensure the perpetuation of the transmission of know-how, in concert with the workshop agents and trainers, within the framework of initial and continuing training;
• Build and maintain a collaboration with the workshops directly associated with them.

• Technical mastery and rigor in the appreciation of the work done;
• Precise knowledge of the materials necessary for the craft (colors, binders, ceramic supports);
• Knowledge of the computer tool in its direct application to the craft;
• Ability to supervise, sense of organization and teamwork;
• Ability to mobilize the workshop in common projects for all services;
• Specific artistic knowledge related to the job (history of art and ceramic technology);
