Position Title:

Safety Manager

About the Positions

Were seeking Safety Managers to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, transit (bus and rail), aviation (international airports), and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. We hire across the level range, from safety oversight on a single construction package to safety leadership across concurrent contracts. Youll enforce contractual safety requirements, verify in the field that committed controls are the controls actually in place, and keep a defensible record of both.

This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need.

Responsibilities
  • May lead program-level safety governance across concurrent construction contracts, and develop the enterprise safety procedures, audit protocols, and escalation paths that the programs contractors are held to.
  • Review and accept site-specific safety plans, job hazard analyses, and activity hazard analyses for conformance with program safety requirements and applicable OSHA regulations, and track open items to closure.
  • Audit contractor safety performance in the field, and observe high-hazard activities during site walks to confirm the controls in the accepted plan are the controls actually in place at the work face.
  • Drive corrective action through to verified closure rather than repeat finding.
  • Oversee incident investigation, evaluate the contractors root cause findings for adequacy, and confirm that corrective actions were implemented and actually worked.
  • May administer the program safety requirements carried in the contract documents, including safety submittals, training and certification tracking, competent person designations, and OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Review engineered temporary works and high-hazard activity plans, such as excavation shoring, falsework and bridge erection, critical lift and rigging plans, and fall protection.
  • Confirm the required engineering, permits, and approvals are in place before high-hazard work proceeds.
  • Evaluate safety controls in active operating environments, including work zones, live service areas, and confined space entry at operating facilities.
  • May lead, develop, and evaluate the safety staff assigned across your contracts, and hold their audit and observation documentation to a consistent program standard.
  • Coordinate safety planning across overlapping contractor operations and schedule sequencing in preconstruction and pre-activity meetings, so shared hazards and interfaces are settled before crews mobilize.
  • Analyze leading and lagging safety indicators across the program, report incident trends, audit results, and contractor safety performance to program leadership, and call for safety stand-downs when the data warrants.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local regulators during inspections and investigations, and represent the programs response, positions, and follow-up commitments.
Attributes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
  • Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, construction management, or civil engineering, or related field, or…
