Position: Systems Engineer II-III (Full-Time, On-Site)

S3I Engineering provides specialty engineering services, systems integration, and operational support to U.S. Government agencies. Our technical expertise spans the Software, Systems, Cyber, and Hardware Engineering disciplines, with a focus on mission‑management systems deployed on DoD and DHS platforms.

We are currently seeking a Senior or Principal Systems Engineer (II/III) to support a new DoD operational capability. This role involves testing, performance optimization, reliability improvement, and complex problem solving.

  • Security Clearance: Requires a DoD Secret clearance.
Ideal Candidate
  • Strong computer hardware and software troubleshooting experience using the Linux command line.
  • Experience building operational Linux computer systems in a secured defense environment.
  • Ability to reverse engineer complex systems to aid in testing and diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with DoD and DCSA cybersecurity practices.
  • General understanding of DoD sensor systems including EO/IR and radar.
  • Familiarity with the mission system on one or more DoD platforms.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, including DoD IL‑5 environments and higher.
  • Outstanding organizational skills in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Highly articulate communication skills when describing complex software behavior and function.
  • Ability to coach junior team members.
  • Strong understanding of computing first principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to break apart large and complex problems into smaller parts and delegate.
  • Positive and professional attitude when working to solve customer problems.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • U.S. Citizenship and eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
Duties
  • Support government labs and aircraft platforms to identify problems, provide solutions, and communicate with software development teams.
  • Perform independent investigations to reproduce problems reported in fielded systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input on requirements derivation.
  • Work directly with government personnel and partners to deliver actionable solutions.
  • Collaborate with industry partner teams to troubleshoot, investigate, and isolate complex problems.
  • Continuously validate and identify gaps in testing methodology.
  • Configure test bench systems to test software requirements.
  • Validate findings of root‑cause analysis and recommend solutions.
  • Lead, train, and refine software test events.
  • Prepare field test reports and review and summarize findings.
  • Provide technical guidance to peers.
Considerations and Experience
  • Previous Minotaur experience strongly desired.
  • Software development experience in a Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Git or IBM Rational Clearcase.
  • Strong software troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of DoD mission systems, sensors, and networks.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or technical field.
  • Ability to assess and troubleshoot complex problems involving multiple systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry approximately 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to maneuver in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to access various government locations, facilities, and vessels.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between office and government facilities.
