Position: Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Day Care- Surgical Services-Ridge Meadows Hospital (RMH) (Hammond)
Location: Hammond

Salary range: CAD $41.42 - $59.52 per hour.

Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the mission and values of Fraser Health, this role provides direct individualized nursing care in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include care of outpatients who may require minor surgical procedures, diagnostic endoscopy procedures or interventional therapeutic endoscopic procedures, and discharge teaching for adults and children.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources; make a nursing diagnosis and determine nursing interventions.
  • Observe patient acuity, intervene, plan and perform nursing interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Assist physicians with therapeutic interventions, positioning patients, and using procedure‑related medical equipment.
  • Collaborate with patients, families and care givers to develop and implement care plans, encouraging family participation.
  • Participate in admission and discharge planning, ensuring care plans are effective and updated.
  • Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks to support staff, and refer to the interprofessional care team as needed.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional team members (physicians, licensed practical nurses, patient care coordinators, clinical nurse educators) to resolve issues and adjust care plans.
  • Identify learning needs of patients and families; teach self‑care and discharge plans.
  • Initiate referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies in collaboration with the care team.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards.
  • Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement activities, identifying patient care issues and recommending changes.
  • Attend in‑services and educational programs; maintain clinical competence and knowledge.
  • Act as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding patient care programs, policies, and equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant clinical experience in the designated clinical area and completion of postgraduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
  • Initiate and maintain intravenous therapy.
  • Perform initial and ongoing clinical assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, and the interprofessional team using verbal, written, and electronic means.
  • Promote person‑centered care, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and patient advocacy.
  • Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources and problem‑solve effectively.
  • Teach and instruct patients and families on essential health topics.
  • Organize and prioritize work.
  • Collaborate and promote cooperation among interprofessional team members.
  • Use factual information, research‑based evidence and clinical practice to support decisions.
  • Operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
