Substitute School Health Tech Paraprofessionals District-Wide

Overview

Steamboat Springs School District is seeking qualified Substitute School Health Tech Paraprofessionals. This is a temporary position for the school year, paid at $26.11 per hour. The role is not eligible for benefits.

Position summary:

A School Health Technician Paraprofessional Substitute supports student health needs by providing basic first aid, maintaining health records, and assisting with various health-related tasks under the supervision of a school nurse or other health professionals. The incumbent documents student health information, administers medications, and reports concerns to the appropriate authorities. They may also perform specialized health care services, such as daily living care assistance to students, as supervised by the School Nurse.

• Provide designated direct health care services within the individual's ability and training for students; follow up on health care referrals.
• Document health information in individual student health record, electronic health record, and/or health room log; assist the nurse with clerical duties, record keeping and immunization records.
• Maintain files and update student health records; prepare appropriate reports for serious accidents or injury.
• Work under day‑to‑day direction from a school nurse; consult with the school nurse regarding the student's health status, particularly when unstable or questionable.
• Administer medication to students according to the school nurse direction, district and state guidelines.
• Administer emergency first aid and CPR in accordance with established protocols; education on the use of AED.
• Adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding student records; discreetly handle sensitive information pertaining to students, parents and staff.
• Respond efficiently to requests for service and keep principal and office staff informed of any health‑related problems; contact parents as appropriate at the direction of the school nurse.
• Act as liaison between school, parents, students and community.
• Interpret and follow school and state policies/procedures and use best practices in day‑to‑day decision making.
• Work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume healthcare setting with constant interruptions and prioritize health office duties.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid CPR certification required or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
• First Aid Certification preferred.
• Willing to complete medication administration training and other training provided.
• Successful completion of FBI/CBI background check.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organizational and clerical skills; high attention to accuracy and detail.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Google platform and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
