Job SummaryCreates an environment where front‑line nurses and ancillary staff provide whole‑person care that is safe, complication‑free, and optimizes functional independence for each patient. Maintains a highly‑visible presence on the unit, collaborates closely with staff, charge nurses, physicians, and other department leaders to ensure efficient and effective clinical operations, and achieves high patient, family, and staff satisfaction. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel using professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Schedules, leads, and coordinates the daily activities of a defined unit on an assigned shift, and assists leadership in accomplishing unit and organizational goals.

- Builds a high‑performing clinical work team by recruiting and retaining skilled professional staff, establishing charge nurses and unit champions, and engaging staff in action plans for change. Completes periodic evaluations, coaches, disciplines, monitors attendance, and works with the unit champion and clinical educator to identify educational needs.
- Sets and strives to achieve goals for patient safety, quality of care, and regulatory compliance. Creates a culture of open communication, develops strategies to improve patient/family/physician satisfaction, and sets standards of care that staff are held accountable to. Monitors critical processes, outcomes, audits, data analysis, and incident reports, exercising discretion and independent judgment.
- Conducts daily rounds with physicians and other staff, actively coordinates care for patients and families, directs and monitors personnel in patient care activities, investigates and resolves patient care and operational issues, and initiates team conferences to revise care plans for optimal individualized care.
- Assesses daily personnel requirements, requests additional staff when necessary, authorizes and assigns overtime, and completes the monthly unit staff schedule accurately and on time in collaboration with staff and management.
- Facilitates throughput through early discharge, pull‑ahead beds, timely admissions/transfers, forecasting admissions, and works with facility services to maintain safe, operational equipment. Prevents complications of care, including nosocomial infections, and conducts emergency preparedness reviews.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
