Health Care Specialist (LPN or RN) – Procedure Nurse – District Wide

Hours per Day: 7 hours per day – start times as early as 7:30 am and end times as late as 4:15 pm. Unpaid lunch: ½ hour.

Starting Pay: $25.60 per hour (Step
1)

Classification: 9 Month – Class 8

The primary goal of the Health Care Specialist is to care for student health, injuries, and illnesses in an expedient manner. The Specialist must also demonstrate the ability and desire to work with medically fragile and/or cognitively impaired students and perform technical nursing procedures under the direction of a Licensed School Nurse.

• First Aid: Administer first aid, emergency, and episodic care in accordance with nursing licensure; monitor students and refer to Licensed School Nurse when needed.
• Cooperation:
  • Assist in planning with the Licensed School Nurse for services to students with special needs.
  • Assist with Special Education evaluations.
  • Develop Individual Health Plans under supervision.
  • Function as a team member of Health Services to maintain student health and facilitate learning; attend IEP meetings.
• Record Keeping:
  • Maintain health records including emergency cards, pupil health records, physicals, and medical documentation.
  • Maintain data logs and compile year‑end reports.
  • Document duties performed and maintain confidential health files with restricted access.
  • Assist with school screenings and comply with communicable disease procedures.
• Delegated Functions: Administer medications and complex care under direction of a licensed school nurse.
• Other Duties: Provided by Building Principal, Special Education Director, supervising LSN or Lead Nurses; includes providing selected health care trainings and participating in local time studies.

• Current licensing by the Minnesota Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Ability to interact positively with all ages.
• Current CPR certification.
• Current First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of and experience with children with special health needs.
• Knowledge of Windows‑based computer software.
• Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
• Excellent communication skills with students, parents, co‑workers, supervisors, and the community.
• Demonstrated appreciation of diversity.
• No written reprimands or higher within the past 12 months.
• Not on a Performance Improvement Plan.
• Must pass a standardized interview process with a score of at least 70%.

Must have passed testing in Health Care Assessment, Microsoft Word, Basic Office Skills, and Following Written Instructions prior to applying.
