MAINTENANCE AIDE (SEASONAL) - NORTHERN BUTTES DISTRICT / CLEAR LAKE SECTOR / CLEAR LAKE STATE PARK

"Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub.

The Maintenance Aide reporting location is Clear Lake State Park at 4300 Soda Bay Rd, Kelseyville CA 95451. The Maintenance Aide works under the supervision of the Sector Maintenance Chief I and is directed on the job by permanent and senior maintenance lead staff.

The Maintenance Aide will perform various housekeeping tasks to ensure that public health and safety standards are maintained. This position performs tasks of cleaning restrooms, restocking restroom supplies, litter pickup, grounds work and other manual labor tasks. This position requires operating gators, trucks and small equipment to clean and maintain the park facilities and grounds. The Maintenance Aide may assist permanent park personnel with more technical and/or difficult tasks.

Must be willing to work holidays and weekends. This is a uniformed position, and the successful candidates will be required to purchase and wear a State Parks uniform.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring for multiple Maintenance Aides. This position is seasonal with an approximate start date of April 2026 and extending through late 2026.The Maintenance Aide is expected to work weekends, holidays, and evenings if necessary and assigned days off may vary from month to month. The normal work hours are 8-hour shifts occurring between the hours of 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, up to five days per week including weekends, holidays and during special events.

This is a uniformed position, and the successful candidates will be required to purchase and wear a State Parks uniform.

This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions

Outdoor work is common. The incumbent's work will involve moderate exposure to a full range of environmental conditions, varying terrain, unusual elements and inclement weather. This includes extreme temperatures; cold, windy, wet and muddy conditions; hot, dry, muggy or unpleasant conditions; exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and allergens such as pollen; insect stings and bites; and loud or excessive noises.

This will require the incumbent to work in old / abandoned structures; around sewage and trash; along lakes, creek banks, wetlands, rocks, brush and in remote locations.

Typical work activities involve frequent and prolonged periods of standing and walking. Considerable physical activity is common and a primary part of the job. The position requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 25 pounds. The incumbent will use their hands and power tools applicable to the position and as necessary to complete various tasks.

May entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, lifting, carrying and reaching on uneven and slippery surfaces. The incumbent must have the ability to climb stairs/inclines, walk or traverse even and uneven terrain for extended or prolonged periods of time, and walk on variable surfaces. Requires the use of safety equipment such as: hard hats, safety glass, safety boots, gloves, ear protection and respirators.
