About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Livestock Officer to manage and oversee their animal husbandry operations near Welkom. This role is essential for ensuring the health, welfare, and productivity of the farm's livestock. You will be responsible for implementing feeding programs, monitoring animal health, maintaining farm facilities, and ensuring efficient breeding practices. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in livestock management, a strong understanding of animal welfare standards, and the ability to work effectively with farmhands.

This position offers a vital role in the agricultural sector of the Free State province.

• Implement and manage feeding schedules and nutritional programs for all livestock.
• Monitor animal health daily, identify signs of illness or distress, and administer basic treatments or alert veterinarians.
• Maintain cleanliness and biosecurity of animal housing facilities and surrounding areas.
• Oversee breeding programs, ensuring optimal conception rates and herd/flock health.
• Assist in record-keeping for births, deaths, vaccinations, and treatments.
• Supervise and train farmhands on proper animal handling techniques and care protocols.

• Experience in livestock management, with a focus on cattle, sheep, or poultry, depending on farm specialization.
• Knowledge of animal nutrition, reproduction, and common diseases.
• Ability to perform basic animal health assessments and administer treatments.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions in Welkom.
