Job Description
Johnson Service Group is looking for a Receiving Inspector with 1-2 years of inspection, manufacturing, warehouse, or mechanical experience. This is for a Temp-Direct job for an Aerospace company in Chatsworth, CA.
Pay Rate: $23.00 HR
Position Purpose/Summary:
The Inbound / Receiving Inspector is a developmental quality role responsible for learning and performing documented inspections of incoming aerospace hardware and materials. This position supports the inbound inspection process by verifying that products meet purchase order requirements, engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality system standards before being released into inventory.
This role is designed for individuals with some inspection experience who are motivated to build technical skills in blueprint reading, measurement techniques, and aerospace quality compliance. Under supervision and structured training, the Inspector develops the knowledge and confidence to make objective accept/reject decisions while ensuring traceability and documentation accuracy in an AS9100-regulated environment.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties
The Inbound Receiving Inspector performs the following duties under supervision and training progression:
Incoming Inspection Support
- Verify purchase orders against received material.
- Review supplier documentation including Certificates of Conformance (COCs), material certifications, and test reports for completeness.
- Perform dimensional and visual inspections using calibrated inspection tools.
- Compare inspection results against engineering drawings and defined specifications.
- Identify obvious discrepancies and escalate uncertain conditions to senior quality personnel.
- Segregate and properly label nonconforming material according to procedure.
- Accurately record inspection results in inspection reports, ERP system, or designated tracking logs.
- Ensure required documentation is complete prior to inventory release.
- Scan and file certifications and quality records into company systems.
- Support traceability requirements by maintaining documentation accuracy.
- Learn and demonstrate proper use of:
- Calipers
- Micrometers
- Height gauges
- Thread/ring gauges
- Optical comparators (as trained)
- Develop understanding of basic blueprint interpretation.
- Learn GD&T fundamentals as part of role progression.
- Participate in structured training related to inspection methods and aerospace quality standards.
- Follow documented quality procedures and inspection instructions.
- Escalate unclear blueprint interpretations or specification conflicts.
- Maintain clean and organized inspection area.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Technical coursework in manufacturing, quality, or blueprint reading (preferred but not required).
- 1-2 years of inspection, manufacturing, warehouse, or mechanical experience.
- Aerospace experience preferred but not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
Skills:
- Basic understanding of measurement concepts (training provided).
- Willingness to learn blueprint reading and inspection standards.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and data entry).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow structured instructions and documented procedures.
- Good communication skills for reporting issues and asking clarifying questions.
- Dependable and able to maintain steady work pace.
- Coachable and open to feedback.
- Certification in quality control preferred
- Achieve?95% inspection accuracy rate (measured by audit findings and rework rates).
- Maintain average throughput of 18-24 inspections per day (based on complexity and training level).
- Complete 100% of required inspection documentation with no missing traceability fields.
- Escalate 100% of suspected nonconformances prior to inventory release (zero unauthorized releases).
- Successfully complete structured inspection training milestones within first 6 months.
- Ability to work in non-temperature-controlled warehouse and inspection environments.
- Successful completion of annual vision testing (Jaeger and color vision), with or without corrections
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20lbs or up to 50lbs with assistance as required.
- Proficient use of inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, ring gauges, and gauges.
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, and perform repetitive inspection tasks for extended periods.
- Maintain focus and accuracy in time-sensitive and regulated environments.
