Details of the role

As a research associate in health macroeconomics, you will work with macroeconomists, health economists, and epidemiologists to assess the macroeconomic impacts of infectious diseases—including tuberculosis, climate‑sensitive diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and related policy interventions—in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. You will apply advanced modelling techniques to evaluate the economic consequences of major global health challenges, inform policy decisions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary experts to deliver insights that support better health strategies for vulnerable populations.

The role reports to the head of the Health Economics and Health Systems Group and the senior macroeconomist, with no direct reports.

Some Key Skills Required
  • PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., macroeconomics, health economics, public health)
  • Expertise in the development and application of macroeconomic modelling, especially large‑scale computable general equilibrium models
  • Skills analysing a variety of data sources, including macroeconomic, international trade, and microeconomic data
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations related to the field
  • Experience designing and executing research projects evaluating macroeconomic impacts of policy issues
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement experience within government and research settings
  • Experience working in the Asia Pacific region, particularly on macroeconomic policy issues
  • Excellent communication and management skills suitable for coordinating multi‑partner research projects and proven ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
UNSW Benefits And Culture
  • 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Flexible working
  • Additional 3 days of leave over the Christmas period
  • Access to lifelong learning and career development
