Job Summary
The client is currently seeking an Analytical Chemist in their Pivotal Attribute Sciences Department in Thousand Oaks, CA. This team plays a crucial role in pivotal phase analytical support, including product development support and testing of drug substances and drug products. The role will work closely with a team of analysts and scientists responsible for the technical aspects of developing analytical tools to gain understanding of key quality attributes in product and process for late-phase synthetic small molecule, synthetic oligonucleotide, synthetic peptide, and/or antibody peptide conjugates.
The Scientist will integrate and optimally utilize platform and in-depth product attribute knowledge to advance client products and ensure success through pivotal clinical phases to marketing authorization application.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare samples and perform routine analyses utilizing liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
- Participate in the development and optimization of HPLC methods.
- Conduct liquid chromatography analysis using Empower or similar LC platforms; experience with large molecule analysis is preferred. Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for synthetic peptide release testing and characterization.
- Perform mass spectrometry analysis (Agilent Q-TOF, Thermo Orbitrap, etc.); experience in large molecule analysis is a plus.
- Collaborate closely with drug substance and drug product process development colleagues to achieve project objectives.
Required Skills
- Written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of scientific results in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, team-based environment
- Abilities in troubleshooting, problem solving, and multi-tasking in support of process chemistry and formulation efforts at the pivotal phase of development; can work under supervision
- Understanding of GLP and GMP requirements and their application in a phase-appropriate manner
Preferred Skills
- Training and expertise in analytical method development, organic chemistry, or formulation development
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret analytical data
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry lab
- Understanding, research in, and hands-on experience with chromatographic techniques, such as liquid chromatography and gas chromatography
- Technical aptitude for the identification, development, and implementation of analytical technologies, such as mass spectrometry (MS), NMR, vibrational spectroscopy, etc.
Education Requirements
- Master's degree; OR
- Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience; OR
- Associate's degree and 4 years of experience; OR
- High school diploma/GED and 6 years of experience

- Interview Process:
Resumes will be collected for 1–2 weeks; the hiring manager will send 3–5 candidates to HR for phone screening (approximately 1 week); the hiring manager will then conduct video interviews with 2–3 candidates and make the final decision (1–2 weeks).
