Senior Research Associate, DNA Encoded Library Technology ~ Contract Position ut the role Nurix is seeking a highly skilled and motivated chemist to join our Discovery Chemistry team at our Brisbane, CA location. This on-site position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the design and synthesis of DNA-encoded libraries (DELs), which are central to our lead discovery platform. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our DEL technology by performing hands‑on laboratory work, developing new chemical transformations compatible with DNA, and collaborating across multiple scientific disciplines.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in synthetic chemistry and a passion for drug discovery, who thrives in a dynamic, team‑oriented environment. What you'll do
  • Lead the design and validation of innovative DEL library constructions, ensuring they meet project specifications and scientific standards.
  • Develop and optimize DNA-compatible chemical transformations to expand the chemical diversity of DELs, enabling more comprehensive screening and hit identification.
  • Assemble and characterize DEL libraries, maintaining high quality and reproducibility to support internal screening efforts.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors to improve DEL synthesis protocols, troubleshoot issues, and implement new technologies.
  • Work closely with screening teams to support DEL-based assays, interpret screening data, and assist in hit validation and follow‑up chemistry.
  • Contribute to the automation and technological advancement of DEL synthesis and screening workflows, aiming to increase throughput and efficiency.
  • Document all experimental procedures thoroughly, analyze experimental data, and prepare detailed reports for internal use and publication.
  • Present research findings at team meetings, contribute to scientific discussions, and help shape strategic decisions related to DEL technology development.
  • Support the integration of machine learning and data analysis tools into DEL discovery workflows, providing chemical insights and optimizing library design.
  • Assist in troubleshooting synthesis issues, optimizing reaction conditions, and ensuring the integrity of DNA‑conjugates during chemical transformations.
  • Participate in cross‑disciplinary meetings to align DEL development activities with broader discovery goals and project timelines.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong foundation in synthetic organic chemistry, with proven experience in designing and executing complex chemical reactions.
  • Hands‑on experience in synthesizing DNA-encoded libraries, including knowledge of DNA-compatible chemistry and conjugation techniques.
  • Familiarity with the overall workflow of DNA-Encoded Library Technology, including library construction, screening, and data analysis.
  • Experience analyzing and purifying DNA‑conjugates using analytical techniques such as LCMS and HPLC, ensuring high purity and integrity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot chemical reactions, optimize protocols, and adapt methods to new challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail in experimental documentation and data management.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and presenting complex data clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
