The Environmental Specialist (ES) is responsible for carrying out the objectives of the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians Tribal Environmental Protection Department. Duties include monitoring contract work related to various grant projects, conducting environmental surveys and assessments, monitoring field activities, monitoring conditions of tribal natural resources, working closely with contractors and other governmental agencies for the protection of tribal resources and the health of the tribal membership, and providing assistance to other tribal entities.
Participates in all aspects of the physical work at restoration sites, and surface water testing; assist in the and training of field and Summer Youth Program staff. This position is grant dependent. At this time, it will run through the end of September. Duties may vary in the future if new grants are acquired with different duties.
- Collects data and analyzes data collected in the field for reporting requirements
- Writes reports, schedules work activities of program staff in accordance with the General Assistance Program, Clean Water Act 106 and 319 programs
- Coordinates work with other government agencies
- Attend seminars, meetings, workshops, trainings, and conferences relevant to Tribal Environmental Projects, and participates in inter‑agency inter‑Tribal efforts to protect Tribal resources
- Conducts environmental inspections or assessments of activities on and off Tribal lands
- Conducts field inventories and assessments of tribal resources
- Maintains sampling and monitoring equipment in accordance with approved Quality Assurance Quality control procedures
- Monitors and reports on quantity and quality of water resources
- Works on long range environmental plans including but not limited to: ETEP, ISWMP, Climate Change Mitigation/ Adaptation, and Drought Planning
- Work on community and youth outreach presentations and materials
- Enforces environmental protection ordinances and codes
- Performs Geospatial Information Systems mapping and Global Positioning Systems tasks
- Conducts river and stream preservation and restorations
- Coordinates and/or participates in Tribal events including non-profit events
- Travels as necessary to accomplish program and tribal goals and objectives
- Maintains professional behavior with positive representation of Coyote Valley while on and off the clock
- Must maintain strict confidentiality during and after employment
