Overview
The Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheet metal UH-60) repairs and replaces aircraft structural components to include stingers, longerons, bulkheads, beams and aircraft skin according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals and safety procedures.
Responsibilities- Repairs, fabricates, modifies and installs structural parts, forming blocks, and shapes metal using stretching, shrinking, and other metal forming techniques.
- Mixes and applies fiberglass materials.
- Balances rotary-wing aircraft blades.
- Makes emergency and permanent repairs to transparent plastic windows and enclosures.
- Uses common measuring tools, precision measuring gauges, and alignment fixtures to perform structural repairs.
- Performs checks; carry out inspections and removal of components.
- Mixes and applies primers and paints to aircraft surfaces.
- Applies corrosion control treatment to aircraft metals.
- Comprehends technical manuals, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Requisition s bench stock for repair of aircraft structures.
- Prepares request for turn ins and repair parts and structural components.
- Uses and performs operator maintenance on common and special tools.
- Performs final checks on assembly and installation of parts that were replaced.
- Prepares forms and records related to aircraft maintenance.
- Assists aircraft technicians and mechanics on various tasks.
- Removes and disassemble defective parts of the aircraft.
- Maintains the supplies and perform preventive maintenance.
- Performs additional duties, including maintenance duties, as requested.
- Adheres to company policies and safety programs (Safety-first mentality).
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired, certification of education level is required.
- Valid up-to-date A&P license (optional).
- Three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the six most recent years.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must provide own tools/toolbox. Recruiters will provide toolbox requirements to candidates upon selection.
- Must be able to work day shift, swing shift, night shift, and/or weekend shift (if applicable) – as required for the applicable labor agreement.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Passport and be able to travel internationally (applicable to OCONUS work sites).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI/T1 Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
- Basic knowledge of aircraft tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press, sheet metal brakes and shears, and MAC-listed tools.
- Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
- Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Sheet metal/Structural Mechanic.
- Receives technical guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician and may lead teams on complex aircraft tasks; may make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- May be required to lift/push/pull heavy objects (over 50 pounds).
- Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
- Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
- Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
- May work in maintenance shop or outside and in a drafty, noisy, and dirty environment.
- May be exposed to extreme noise, electrical shock hazards, moving parts or vehicles, and all-weather conditions.
- California:
Hiring hourly range: $ per hour (Hourly rate set by CBA). - This position includes a competitive benefits package.
- Bi-weekly accrual of 3.39 hours (0 to less than 48 months); 4.93 hours (48 to less than 108 months); 6.47 hours (108 months or more).
