Location: Vandenberg Space Force Base

Position Overview

The Fuel Distribution Systems Mechanic (FDSM) Tech C operates, inspects, maintains, diagnoses, adjusts, and makes minor repairs to fuel distribution systems. This is an entry‑level position. The candidate is knowledgeable in diagnostics equipment, hand and pneumatic tools, and measuring devices common to fuel system maintenance. The Tech C assists with spill prevention, cleanup, and environmental management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Installs, repairs and maintains liquid fuel storage, distribution, and dispensing systems.
  • Manages and modifies liquid fuel systems and components.
  • Checks components for operation, adjustment, pressures, and internal and external leaks under pressure.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions using drawings and schematics to isolate issues.
  • Modifies equipment for specific missions or to increase efficiency.
  • Performs recurring maintenance and seasonal overhaul on systems and components.
  • Advises on problems with installation and repair of liquid fuel storage, distribution, and dispensing equipment and systems.
  • Solve complex maintenance problems by studying layout drawings, wiring, and schematics.
  • Develops and establishes operation and maintenance procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Performs planning activities, surveys, cost estimation, and resource requirement analysis for in‑service work.
  • Coordinates plans and other activities, applying engineered performance standards to plan and estimate jobs.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in the same type of work.
  • Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Material Endorsements may be required for certain functions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain base access and restricted area access.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Employees frequently stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, and lift items weighing 40–45 pounds, occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. The environment exposes employees to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions.

Compensation Details

Hourly rate: $41.07. The compensation reflects company expectations at the time of posting and may vary based on experience, education, and other factors.
