Location: Mather

Facilities Management Service seeks Maintenance Workers to perform small repairs of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general carpentry duties at the medical center, including installations, assemblies, maintenance, repairs, and fabrications of various systems and equipment. Incumbents will work under the direct supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor.

Experience

A specific length of training and experience is not required, but applicants must demonstrate training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs (Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. Volunteer work that builds competencies, knowledge, and skills can be credited.

Screen-out Element

Qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element, usually appearing as question 1 in the online questionnaire. Applicants who meet the minimal acceptable qualification are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge to lay out partitions, ceilings, and floors.
  • Skill in measuring and cutting accurately (wood, tile, plastic).
  • Knowledge and skill to perform minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing, air conditioning, sprinkler, and electrical systems.
  • Skill to use tools and equipment such as hammer, level, block plane, plumb bob, brushes, trowels, straight edge, roller, and spray gun.

Other Information

A full year of work is considered 35-40 hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited based on time actually spent. Applicants wishing to receive credit must indicate the nature of duties, responsibilities, and number of hours per week in each position.
