Overview
This recruitment is being made to fill 1 part-time position in San Joaquin General Hospital and to establish an eligible referral pool for future part-time/temporary opportunities. Typical DutiesPerforms semi-skilled maintenance trades work including painting, glazing, carpentry, plastering, locksmithing, masonry, plumbing, metal work, welding, electrical, mechanical, heating and ventilating, and related tasks.
Assists in hanging doors, pouring concrete, laying flooring, installing partitions and drop ceilings, repairing door closers, furniture, roofs, and performing other general carpentry work.
Performs general minor plumbing repairs; repairs leaking faucets, clears clogged lines; assists in installation of water and sewer lines.
Installs and replaces light fixtures, outlets, bulbs, and fuses.
Maintains and performs minor repairs on locks, appliances, automotive equipment, boilers, heating and ventilating systems, and related mechanical devices.
Assists skilled workers in a variety of building trades tasks.
Maintains runways and taxiways; sprays chemicals for weed control; may perform other janitorial, grounds maintenance or related work as assigned.
Operates a variety of motorized tools, equipment, and vehicles, and performs minor maintenance of same; uses hand tools common to the building maintenance trades.
Minimum QualificationsEITHER PATTERN I
Experience: Three years of semi-skilled experience in at least one of the building trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, or electrical).
OR PATTERN II
Experience: 18 months as a Crafts Worker I in San Joaquin County Service.
AND FOR BOTH PATTERNS
License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
KnowledgeThe standard methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the building maintenance trades; occupational hazards and safety precautions.
AbilityTrain and lead workers of lesser skill and experience; understand and follow oral and written instructions; write simple notations and prepare simple reports; perform heavy manual labor; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Part-time employees who meet eligibility criteria may receive health insurance benefits and step increases.
Hours Restrictions: SEIU bargaining unit employees are limited to 1,559 hours on payroll each calendar year.
Selection ProceduresApplicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are referred to the hiring department for further selection or may be required to take a written examination. If a written exam is given, top candidates may be referred for further selection.

Physical Exam: Some classifications require physical examinations. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination. County pays for exams administered in its facilities.
