Diesel Mechanic
Mammoth Disposal has an immediate opening for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to support our fleet operations in Mammoth Lakes, California. This position is primarily based in Mammoth Lakes, with occasional work performed at our Bishop maintenance facility. Mechanics seeking stable, year-round employment with competitive pay, overtime opportunities, and excellent benefits are encouraged to apply. Carpool options are available between Bishop and Mammoth as needed.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Start time between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM
- Typical workday of 8 to 10 hours
- Occasional Saturdays as needed
- Occasional travel to support Blue Team operations may be required
Compensation
Starting Pay: $38.00 - $40.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and certifications. The pay range for this job category is $38-42.25/hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks, including engines, chassis, body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, wheels, and tires.
- Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, including forklifts, loaders, skid steers, material handlers, and recycling sorting systems.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment for proper operating condition, fluid levels, differentials, final drives, pump drives, hubs, and other critical components.
- Utilize diagnostic software and onboard computer systems to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Conduct required safety inspections on vehicles and equipment.
- Complete maintenance records, parts tracking, and repair documentation using fleet maintenance software.
- Review and address defects identified through Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
- Follow all required safety procedures and communicate repair needs effectively.
Working Conditions
- Extensive physical activity, including lifting, pushing, and pulling objects exceeding 50 pounds.
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
- Exposure to grease, dirt, moving equipment, and mechanical hazards while following established safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience in diesel truck and heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems and repairs.
- Valid Class A or Class B CDL with air brake endorsement preferred, but not required at the time of hire. Candidates must be willing to obtain a CDL in the future.
- Clean driving record.
- Must provide personal hand tools.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
