Skilled Maintenance
- Lead Electrician

Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee, the Skilled Maintenance
- Lead Electrician performs advanced journey-level electrical work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and related infrastructure throughout District facilities; serves as the lead electrician responsible for coordinating electrical maintenance activities, reviewing and assigning work orders, and providing technical guidance to electricians and other maintenance personnel; and ensures systems, equipment, and projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and District expectations.

Supervision is received from the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee. This classification provides functional lead direction, technical guidance, and work coordination to assigned staff but does not exercise formal supervisory authority.

The Skilled Maintenance – Lead Electrician is the advanced journey-level classification that performs the most complex and specialized work while providing functional leadership over electrical operations. Incumbents are responsible for assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing work orders; coordinating workflow; and providing technical guidance to staff to ensure quality, consistency, and timely completion of work. Incumbents are also responsible for coordinating cross-trade collaboration and supporting department-wide operations, including assigning or participating in multi-trade projects and ensuring staff resources are utilized effectively to meet operational priorities.

This role promotes a team-based approach to maintenance services and ensures that work is completed efficiently regardless of trade boundaries, consistent with employee qualifications and safety requirements.

  • Provides high-quality customer service to site administrators, staff, students, and community members by responding to maintenance service requests with urgency, professionalism, and a solution-oriented approach; communicates clearly regarding system status, repair timelines, and operational impacts; and ensures services support safe, functional, clean, and well-maintained learning and working environments.
  • Reviews, prioritizes, and assigns electrical work orders to electricians and maintenance staff based on urgency, workload, and operational needs.
  • Monitors progress of assigned electrical work orders and ensures repairs and installations are completed accurately, safely, and within established timelines.
  • Provides technical guidance, instruction, and support to electricians and other maintenance personnel regarding electrical troubleshooting, code requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Inspects completed electrical work to ensure quality, code compliance, and adherence to District safety standards.
  • Performs complex electrical installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of building electrical systems, distribution equipment, and related infrastructure.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, circuits, panels, transformers, lighting systems, conduit, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Oversees installation and maintenance of electrical components associated with HVAC systems, motors, pumps, and building control systems.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs fire alarm systems, clocks, bells, intercom systems, and other electrical signaling and communication systems.
  • Inspects electrical systems and equipment to identify hazards, malfunctions, or code compliance issues; performs necessary repairs or directs corrective action.
  • Performs and supports preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to ensure reliability, efficiency, and longevity.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems and equipment across District facilities.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical specifications to plan and coordinate electrical installations and repairs.
