Role Description

The Utility Worker I/II/III is a full-time, on-site position located in Sloughhouse, CA, responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of District utilities and facilities. Day-to-day activities may include assisting with water, wastewater, and storm drainage system maintenance, performing basic repairs, operating equipment and tools, and helping keep work areas, grounds, and facilities clean and safe. The role may involve reading meters, responding to service requests, and supporting fieldwork such as line flushing, valve operation, and minor infrastructure repairs under supervision.

Utility Workers at different levels (I/II/III) perform tasks of increasing complexity and responsibility, including more advanced equipment operation and troubleshooting as experience grows. The position requires adherence to safety standards, accurate recordkeeping, and effective collaboration with supervisors, coworkers, and community members.

Qualifications
  • Strong Communication and Customer Service skills to interact effectively with residents, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to safely perform Forklift Operation and other basic equipment handling, where required for materials and supplies.
  • Experience with Training or willingness to participate in ongoing safety and technical training programs.
  • Awareness of general safety and hygiene practices, especially when working around community facilities.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, standing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in utilities, public works, construction, or maintenance is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; ability to meet District safety and background requirements.
