Definition- Perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, installation, modification, construction and calibration of a wide variety of electrical and electronic control systems, plant control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), remote terminal units (RTU), variable frequency drives (VFD), motor control centers, communication systems, field telemetry systems, and related equipment and devices used in the treatment, storage, pumping, and distribution of potable water, maintenance and repair of chemical feed equipment.
Received/Exercised
- General supervision is provided by the Director of Water Quality and Water Treatment Superintendent.
- Direct supervision is provided by the Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
- Technical and training assistance is provided by the Plant Maintenance Technician Lead worker, Instrument & Control Technician II, or III.
- There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
- Use computerized maintenance management system to receive and complete work orders, preventive maintenance plans and requisitions of materials and spare parts.
- Maintain network and other signal communication between equipment, controls, field hardware, and SCADA systems.
- Input information on new equipment into applicable databases.
- Inspect and test gas detector assemblies, based on OEM specifications.
- Perform routine monitoring, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on 480 VAC and DC motors and motor control circuits.
- Calibrate flow transmitters, pressure transmitters, electrical conductivity meters, level transmitters, turbidity meters, and other related equipment.
- Conduct research and price comparisons for new equipment.
- Install new instrumentation under supervision.
- Interpret and maintain wiring diagrams and schematics; troubleshoot and upgrade prints.
- Respond to emergencies on an on-call basis.
- Perform work on mechanical equipment and building facilities.
- Assist other plant maintenance specialists.
- Pickup and delivery of maintenance materials and equipment from Treatment Plant sites, vendors and contracted repair shops.
- Serve as an Entry Team member on the Authority’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) team and ensure that chemical and hazardous material spills are handled in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors, Board members, and the public.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Modern office procedures and practices, equipment, and clerical techniques.
