Position Overview
Koinonia Homes for Teens is seeking a qualified and compassionate individual to join our team as a temporary part‑time Mental Health Support Worker (MHSW) in our adolescent residential therapeutic program located in Orangevale. - Sunday – Wednesday:
Sunday 8 am‑10 pm, Monday and Tuesday 5 pm‑10 pm, and Wednesday transition 1 pm‑3 pm
Supervision of youth’s day‑to‑day activity in Koinonia’s Homes for Teens residential program, including transportation, role modeling appropriate adult behavior, participating with social workers and youth in periodic group and individual therapy sessions, performing routine household and grounds maintenance on occasion, performing food services for youth on occasion, and preparing paperwork and reports. The MHSW position provides direct supervision for up to six youth as they complete their daily program activities.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate is compassionate, sets good boundaries, has a passion for helping at‑risk youth, and possesses good interpersonal, communication, time‑management and organizational skills. They are reliable, dependable, able to work productively under minimal supervision, have a high degree of integrity and confidentiality, and have a reliable means of transportation with a flexible schedule. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age (as required by state law) and meet at least one of the following: experience working with youth (coaching, tutoring, mentoring, daycare, volunteering or working in a school), a bachelor’s degree, a teaching certificate, or Alcohol and Other Drug certification.
Background& Driver Requirements
Qualified candidates must complete a criminal background clearance through the California Department of Justice and FBI to ensure eligibility for employment, as well as a pre‑employment physical and TB test. This position requires a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation, as driving is an essential job function. The MHSW must be able to safely and reliably transport youth to medical appointments, therapy sessions, educational activities, and other essential services, and be prepared to respond to crisis situations by providing immediate transportation to ensure the safety and security of the youth.
