Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Human Services, or related field preferred
Substitute Certification (or eligible to obtain)
Applicants having bilingual certification is highly encouraged, but not required
Understanding of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, post-secondary transition planning, and the public school's relationship to the community and the families served
Capacity to make thoughtful decisions based on facts, knowledge, and insight, and the courage to stand by the results
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, small and large groups, by correspondence or oral expression
Maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of student and family records
Ability to organize, plan effectively, and guide students through educational and career transitions
Possess an ethical and professional attitude toward colleagues and the policies of the District

Responsibilities and Duties

Possess a thorough understanding of, and an ability to relate to, youth and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
Provide intensive, individualized case management services specifically for McKinney-Vento students to ensure access to resources, services, and opportunities needed to overcome barriers and achieve academic success.
Work collaboratively with Sedalia 200 district social workers, school counselors, and staff to supplement and enhance existing student support systems.
Provide targeted support in the areas of school stability and successful educational, grade-level, and post-secondary transitions.
Facilitate immediate warm handoffs and seamless intake processes when students move between schools within the district or transfer into the district to maintain school stability.
Guide and support high school McKinney-Vento students in preparing for college, career technical training, workforce entry, and other post-secondary opportunities.
Assist high school seniors with post-secondary applications, FAFSA completion (including independent student verification for homeless youth), scholarship opportunities, and fee waivers.
Connect students and families with needed district and community resources, including housing support, basic needs, health/dental care, and social services.
Conduct home visits and outreach meetings with families to assess transition needs, foster trust, and act as a liaison between the home and the school district.
Assist parents and students with enrollment, school placement, transportation arrangements, and maintaining stability in the school of origin when applicable.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local community agencies, higher education representatives, vocational centers, and youth service providers.
Assist parents in the facilitation of their support in their children's school adjustment and long-term academic goals.
Educate parents and students regarding the social, emotional, physical, and academic needs necessary for successful transition into higher education or the workforce.
Assist parents with enrollment information, including but not limited to free and reduced lunch forms and services available through Medicaid/Mo Health Net .
