AOD Social Worker

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Tribal Child Welfare Manager, the incumbent will carry a case load involving individuals and families experiencing complex and co-occurring challenges, including child welfare involvement and substance use disorder. The incumbent will be required to find cultural and creative ways to ensure provision of prevention and intervention services; joint case management with IV-E Social Workers and County Child Welfare Social Workers to ensure that each tribal child and family receives individualized treatment and specialized application of casework methods and skills;

provision of comprehensive casework services; and perform related work as required. Individuals must be energetic, forward thinking, flexible and open, and practice from a trauma informed perspective with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.

1. Conduct comprehensive assessments including, risk, and safety assessments; psychosocial, strengths and needs, and screening for substance use determine social service needs of clients.
2. Develop and implement individualized case plans that address child safety, family stability and substance use recover needs.
3. Provide ongoing case management, including coordination with substance use treatment providers, behavioral health services and community resources; develop professional working relationships with families; and advocate for Yurok children in accordance with Yurok policies, programs, funding, and traditions under supervision.
4. Implement culturally relevant prevention and intervention services that reduce risk and increase protective factors for an identified program and target population.
5. Provide supportive counseling, education, and guidance to individuals and families impacted by substance use and addiction.
6. Attend Tribal and State Court proceedings; prepare reports and provide recommendations related to placements, reunification, and permanency, including considerations of substance use and recovery progress. 7. May be required to testify in court to speak on the record to represent the position of the Tribe as an ICWA Advocate.
8. Educate clients and families on the effects of substance use, available treatment options, and recovery supports.
9. Identify and connect clients to appropriate, including, detox, inpatient/outpatient treatment, counseling, housing support, and recovery programs. 10. Utilize appropriate intervention strategies such as motivational interviewing, relapse prevention planning, and harm reduction approaches. 11. Conduct investigations and assessments of allegations of abuse and/or neglect of children. 12. Facilitation of parent/child/relative visitation. 13. Provide transition and independent living planning with youth, including life skills and substance use prevention education.

14. Educational advocacy for school aged children and youth. 15. Conduct concurrent planning for all children in foster care. 16. Provide Crisis intervention to families, youth, elders, and vulnerable adults. 17. Facilitate Child and Family Team meetings (CFT) and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community partners. 18. Assist in facilitating community engagement, outreach, prevention programing and workshops related to substance use and family wellness.

19. Maintain ongoing staffing with the Tribal Child Welfare Director and staffing caseload data, court recommendations, placements and other issues regarding caseload and other related programs. 20. Prepare and maintain case records and program reports using tribal databases and follow all policies related to data maintenance. 21. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 1. G9:
Bachelor's degree in related field with two years of job specified experience. 2. G10:
Bachelor's degree in related field with three years of job specified experience.
3. Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC) 4. Employees must be willing to acquire any special certifications or attend any training that is determined to be relevant or become required of the position in the future.
5. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience in substance use counseling, case management, or recovery support services is preferred.
