Job Details- Employment Category: Full Time / Exempt
- Location: NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), Edwards AFB, CA
- Work performed in office, control room, and field environments.
- Work Environment: Office, simulation laboratory, and control-room environments supporting real-time simulation, ground test, and flight operations. Occasional extended hours may be required to support ground test or flight activities.
- Security Clearance: Must obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Design and implement software used in real-time simulations of research aircraft, including aerodynamics, flight controls, and flight systems models.
- Develop and test six-degree-of-freedom (6‑DOF) simulations of research aircraft, including both software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop configurations.
- Prepare design documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), and related engineering artifacts.
- Integrate automated tools developed for simulation into the simulation environment.
- Assist in the development and review of test plans, test procedures, and related documentation.
- Perform verification and validation (V&V) activities on simulation software and integrated systems.
- Participate in ground test and flight support activities as required by the project.
- Collaborate with simulation, flight controls, and flight systems engineers across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Bachelor's degree or greater in Engineering or Physical Science with at least 15 years of relevant experience (per ETSS Principal Engineer labor category; a Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of related experience, a Doctorate for 5 years).
- Proficiency in C++, C, FORTRAN, Java, and Python.
- Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Experience developing API and/or application software for real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Experience developing multi-threaded applications and parallel processing software.
- Proficiency with scripting languages.
- Experience with Java GUI and code development.
- U.S. Citizenship required (NASA facility access).
- Embedded systems development experience.
- Simulink programming experience.
- Experience supporting NASA or DoD flight simulation, ground test, or flight test programs.
- Familiarity with simulation of piloted and unmanned research aircraft.

- Directly support NASA Armstrong's real-time simulation capability for current and next‑generation research aircraft.
- Develop simulation software that underpins flight controls research, pilot‑in‑the‑loop evaluations, and flight test readiness.
- Collaborate with NASA engineers, test pilots, and researchers on high‑visibility flight research programs.
- Apply senior‑level software expertise across the full simulation lifecycle—from design and implementation through verification, validation, and flight support.
