The North County Fire Protection District is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Courier. The essential duties and responsibilities for this position are to facilitate the cost‑effective distribution, recovery and/or retrieval of medical equipment, supplies, district paperwork or materials, and to perform errands and tasks to assist in day‑to‑day District operations.
Hours of WorkThis assignment is part‑time and is considered a Non‑Exempt employee under the FLSA, thus overtime eligible. Total work hours range from 8 to 15 hours per week on an as‑needed basis. Couriers receive a 15‑minute break for every 3 hours worked and a 30‑minute unpaid meal break when working more than 5 hours.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure each station and administrative building is equipped with adequate supplies.
- Deliver inter‑department mail between NCFPD stations and administration.
- Work after hours when requested during District‑impacting or emergency events.
Experience: No experience required. Experience as a courier, inventory management, or record keeping is preferred. Open to current NCFPD explorers only.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
Licenses &
Certifications:
Valid Class "C" California Driver's License and must remain insurable with the District’s all‑risk insurance carrier.
Safe driving, basic computer systems or applications, and knowledge of local geography and roadways.
Abilities- Learn and use District terminology and communication codes.
- Maintain good relations and communicate well with co‑workers and the public.
- Respond promptly to requests received.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Possible background check.
- Must pass a medical examination.
- Non‑smoker and sign agreement to remain non‑smoker.
Health Insurance: Health insurance benefits are provided to Couriers in accordance with the Affordable Care Act and the District’s Insurance Benefits Policy.
Sick Leave: Accrued at one hour per 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 400 hours. No cash value upon separation.
Uniforms: Uniforms will be provided as necessary.
